Crankshaft and crankshaft bearings (Peugeot J5)

Removing the crankshaft has already been described in the section on engine disassembly. The crankshaft runs in five bearings. The main bearing journals and connecting rod bearing journals can be turned once, that is, there are bearing shells of the same increased size. However, the specified diameters of main bearing journals and connecting rod bearing journals have two tolerance classes.

The axial play of the crankshaft is adjusted by spacer washers at one of the crankshaft bearings.

The crankshaft is sealed at the front and rear using oil seals.

The front oil seal is located on the bolted cover, and the rear oil seal is pressed into the crankcase and the rear main bearing cover.
