Torsion bar mount on the lever

1 – lever, 2 – torsion bar mounting bolt, 3 – eccentric locking pad, 4 – stabilizer mounting bolt, 5 – stabilizer end mounting bolt, 6 – support pad

Removal

1. Place the car on a lift and remove the shock absorbers and stabilizer.

2. Place the car on stands.

3. Install the 7.0908 V device in place of the shock absorber (adjust its length so that the axle can be freely placed in the lever).

4. Screw in the locknut of the device.

5. On the opposite side, at the end of the torsion bar, unscrew the bolt and remove the gasket.

6. On the side from which the torsion bar is being removed, unscrew the bolt and remove the support gasket.

7. Mark the position of the torsion bar with two punches (on torsion bar and lever).

8. Install tip 7.0908 Q (improved shank with thread M8x125) at the end of the torsion bar, and at the tip there is an inertial puller (8.0316 A).

9. Remove the torsion bar (you should make sure that the lever does not move back together with the torsion bar).

Installation

1. The distance of the axis of the device 7.0908 V should be adjusted:
  • up to the recommended value if the torsion bar is new;
  • up to the value determined for body suspension height correction;
  • to the value measured during removal.

Attention! During installation, do not swap torsion bars:
  • - right torsion bar: 1 mark, painted;
  • - left torsion bar: 2 signs, painted.

2. Install a special adjusted device in place of the shock absorber.

3. Install a tip on the torsion bar from the lever side, as well as an inertial puller (0908 Q).

4. Check that the splines are well cleaned and then lubricate them with Esso Norva 275 grease.

5. On the opposite side from the side from which the torsion bar was removed, install the support gasket in the socket.

6. Install the torsion bar through the mounting element in the lever, and then, by turning it, find a position in which the torsion bar freely enters to a depth of 8–10 mm.

Attention! The torsion bar fits freely only 8-10 mm.

7. Finish installing the torsion bar using a puller when it rests against the support gasket.

8. Remove the tip and puller.

9. Fill the socket with grease.

10. Install the support lining and tighten each end of the torsion bar to 17.5 Nm.

11. Tighten the two handbrake cable holder bolts.

12. Remove the device installed in place of the shock absorber.

13. Install the shock absorber.

14. Install the stabilizer.

15. Place the car on its wheels.

16. Check the height of the body suspension and adjust if necessary.
