Early models
Removing
1. Loosen the alternator pivot bolts and linkage bolts, then unscrew the tensioner bolt to reduce the drive belt tension.
2. Remove drive belt.
Installation and tension
1. Install the drive belt on the pulleys.
2. The belt tension must be adjusted so that with moderate pressure of the thumb on the middle of the long section of the belt, the deflection of the belt A is approximately 6.0 mm.
3. Adjust belt tension with adjuster bolt, then tighten alternator pivot point and link bolts (the arrow indicates the bolt of the suspension of the tension adjustment pulley).
Models with manual tension adjustment
Removing
1. Remove ground wire from battery.
2. Remove the protective cover from the engine.
3. Loosen installation bolts (adjustments) suspension pulley tensioner (one is located in the middle of the pulley, the other is at the bottom of the suspension).
4. Loosen the bolt completely (indicated by an arrow) adjustment and remove the drive belt from the pulleys.
Tension setting and adjustment
1. Install new belt onto pulleys.
2. The correct tension of the drive belt ensures its durability. A loose belt will slip and possibly squeal. However, an overtightened belt will increase wear in the alternator bearings.
3. The belt tension should be adjusted so that, with moderate thumb pressure on the middle of the long section of the belt, the belt deflection is approximately 5.0 mm.
4. To adjust the belt tension, unscrew the adjustment bolt, then rotate the crankshaft and check the tension again.
5. Tighten the idler pulley hanger mounting bolts securely.
6. Install the protective cover on the motor.
7. Connect the battery ground wire.
Models with automatic tension adjustment
Removing
1. Remove ground wire from battery.
2. Remove the protective cover from the engine.
3. Install the square wrench into the square hole in the base of the automatic adjuster hanger, turn the hanger counterclockwise to release the belt tensioner. The suspension clamp in this position is 4.0mm.
4. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the tensioner roller and check the condition of the pulleys and the auxiliary drive belt.
Tension setting and adjustment
1. Install new belt onto pulleys.
2. Install the tensioner roller and tighten the mounting bolts.
3. Using a square wrench compresses the automatic adjuster, then slowly allows the tensioner to tension the belt.
4. Install the protective cover on the motor.
5. Connect the battery ground wire.
