Idle speed adjustment point on models with idle speed compensator

The idle speed adjustment point is indicated by the arrow.
Please note: On models from 1994 onwards, the specified interval for this procedure is 30,000 km.
Before checking the idle speed and mixture composition, you should check:
- setting the ignition timing;
- spark plug condition;
- accelerator cable (on carburetor models - also the throttle cable);
- crankcase ventilation hoses;
- air filter element;
- exhaust system;
- compression and valve clearance.

1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature and make adjustments within 2 minutes without stopping the engine.
2. If the electric radiator cooling fan turns on, make adjustments only after it has turned off.
Models with carburetor
3. All electrical consumers must be switched off, the air damper must be fully open.
4. If the car does not have a tachometer, connect the tachometer according to the instructions.
5. Check the idle speed and compare it with the data given in subsection 3.1.1 (V subsection 3.3.1 for engines 1.4 dm³).
Please note: Models with air conditioning have an idle speed compensation device.

6. Using the appropriate screwdriver, tighten the set screw (to increase speed) or turn it out as necessary to bring the engine idle speed back to normal.
7. The CO content in the exhaust gases is adjusted at the factory and no further adjustment is required. However, after a major overhaul of the carburetor, re-adjustment may be performed.
8. Adjustment of the CO content in the exhaust gases can only be carried out at Peugeot service stations.
9. The idle speed adjustment screw is covered with a plug to prevent accidental adjustment. To access the screw, remove the plug with a sharp tool.

10. Use a screwdriver to turn the screw (indicated by the arrow) mixture control very slowly until the desired CO level is reached. Turning the screw clockwise decreases the CO content, and vice versa, turning the screw counterclockwise increases the CO content.
11. After adjusting the CO content, install a new plug and, if necessary, adjust the idle speed.

12. All electrical consumers must be switched off.
13. If the car does not have a tachometer, connect the tachometer according to the instructions.
14. Check the idle speed and compare it with the data given in subsection 3.1.1.

15. Idle speed is adjusted by screwing the screw into the throttle body. Turning the screw clockwise decreases the idle speed.
16. Adjustment of the CO content in the exhaust gases can only be carried out at Peugeot service stations.

17. The idle speed adjustment screw is located on the air flow meter and is covered with a plug to prevent accidental adjustment. To access the screw, remove the plug with a sharp tool. Use a screwdriver to turn the screw (indicated by the arrow) adjust the mixture very slowly until the required CO level is established.

18. Idle speed is not regulated but is controlled by the idle speed control valve.
19. Adjustment of the CO content in the exhaust gases can only be carried out at Peugeot service stations.
20. The idle speed adjustment screw is located on the air flow meter and is capped to prevent accidental adjustment.

21. Turning the screw (indicated by the arrow) clockwise, the CO content increases, and vice versa, turning the screw counterclockwise, the CO level decreases.

30. Idle speed is controlled only on the XU9JA/Z engine – on other engines, control is performed by the idle speed control valve and the ECU.
31. All electrical consumers must be switched off.
32. If the car does not have a tachometer, connect the tachometer according to the instructions.

33. Check the idle speed and compare it with the data given in subsection 3.1.1. Idle speed is adjusted by screw (7).
34. CO content adjustment can only be performed on the XU9J4/K engine; on other engines, adjustment is performed by the ECU.
35. Adjustment of the CO content in the exhaust gases can only be carried out at Peugeot service stations.
36. The CO adjustment screw is located on top of the air flow meter and is covered with a plug to prevent accidental adjustment.

37. By turning the screw (5) clockwise, the CO content increases and vice versa, by turning the screw counterclockwise, the CO level decreases.

38. On models with Magneti Marelli engine management system, mixture adjustment is only possible by reprogramming the ECU using special electronic testing equipment.
