- Place the rear of the car on stands and support the rear axle in the middle with a jack.
- Raise the rear axle until the shock absorbers are compressed.
- Unscrew the upper and lower shock absorber mounts and remove the shock absorbers. Figure 158 shows the options for mounting the shock absorbers, that is, directly next to the wheel or closer to the middle of the rear axle pipe.

The shock absorber is checked by clamping it in a vice and slowly pulling out and retracting the rod. The resistance throughout the entire working stroke should be the same. Sagging means the shock absorber needs to be replaced.
The shock absorber is installed in reverse order. As can be seen from the pictures, the bolts have different diameters on the top and bottom sides. The tightening torque of all bolts is 50 Nm.
