Ignition coil (Peugeot J5)

Ignition coils are supplied by various manufacturers, however, when replacing an ignition coil, an ignition coil from the same manufacturer must be installed. The ignition coil consists of an iron core with a primary winding (fewer turns - thicker wire) and secondary winding (many turns - thin wire). The iron core is filled. The coil body is made of sheet steel. The ignition coil cannot be disassembled or repaired, but at a service station the resistance of the primary and secondary windings and the output high voltage of the coil can be checked using a special device. If there is a suspicion that the ignition coil is out of order, the check is carried out by installing another one (suitable for this ignition system) coils. In this case, the presence of a coil defect is easily determined. It should be noted that sometimes the ignition coil works normally until it warms up to operating temperature. Therefore, cold control is not always successful. Ignition coils are manufactured primarily by Bosch and Ducellier.

Apart from keeping the insulating caps clean and dry to prevent voltage breakdowns and leakage currents, the ignition coil is maintenance-free.
