Replacing the guide bearing (right drive shaft) (Peugeot J5)

The pilot bearing is pressed onto the drive shaft and requires a puller with long jaws to remove it. To press in the bearing, you need a piece of pipe with an outside diameter of 36 mm and a length of 450 mm.

Before replacing the bearing, remove the rubber seal and the joint from the shaft, i.e., the end of the shaft with the outer constant velocity joint is separated from the intermediate shaft.

• Remove the retaining ring in front of the bearing and pull the bearing off the shaft. If you don't have a suitable puller, you can clamp the drive shaft in a vice and hit the long end of the shaft with a rubber or plastic hammer until the bearing comes off.
• Clean all parts thoroughly.
• Place a new bearing on the shaft and press it in using the mentioned pipe.
• Place the retaining ring on the shaft and hammer it in with a tube until the ring slips into the groove of the shaft.
• Fill three bearings (1) with grease figure 119 and put them on the sprocket necks of the hinge.
• Spread the grease supplied with the new cuff over the inside of the joint and the cuff, install the joint and securely fasten the cuff with a clamping strap.
