Correct fit
Seats, head restraints, belts and airbags provide protection for the driver and passengers of the car. Proper use of these elements provides additional protection. Therefore, observe the following rules:
- You should sit almost vertically, so that the base of the back is as deep as possible. The seat back should not be tilted more than 30 degrees.
- Adjust the head restraints so that the top of the head restraint is flush with the top of your head.
- Do not move the front seat too close to the front panel.
- The driver should hold the steering wheel with slightly bent arms.
- The legs should also be slightly bent so that the rider can push the pedals to the floor.
- The seat belt must pass over the center of the shoulder.
- The waist band of the belt should fit snugly around the hips, not the stomach.
Seat belts
The seat belts fitted to your vehicle are designed to reduce the risk of injury in an accident and are designed for use by a normal adult. The work of the belt is built on the inertial principle. It fixes a person relative to the seat when a certain overload occurs (sudden braking, stopping in the event of an impact, etc.). It is forbidden to fasten more than one person with one belt. Seat belts are equipped in all places intended for the transport of people.
Please observe the following when using belts:
- Make sure that the belt is not slack, twisted or blocked by any objects. The optimum level of safety is achieved when the belt is in close contact with the torso, so try not to wear thick or bulky clothing.
- Passengers occupying the rear seats must also wear their seat belts, as in the event of a strong impact, these passengers pose a serious danger to those sitting in front.
- The diagonal part of the belt should pass through the middle of the shoulder and chest, and in no case through the neck. The lower part of the belt should tightly cover the hips, and in no case the stomach.
Attention! Incorrectly worn seat belt not only does not reduce the risk of injury, but, in the event of a collision, increases the likelihood of death or serious injury.
Attention! Optimal seat belt performance is achieved when the seat back is positioned 25 to 30 degrees from vertical.
Attention! Never place a child on your lap while the vehicle is in motion and do not use the same seat belt together.
Note. Passengers occupying the rear seats, if possible, should be positioned so that the belt passes over the shoulder and does not put pressure on the neck.
- Make sure that there are no sharp or fragile objects, such as pens, glasses, etc., in the place where the belt fits on the body.
- Pregnant women should pass the diagonal part of the belt over the shoulder, then in the middle of the chest and to the side and below the abdomen. The cross section of the belt should go over the hips under the belly.
- Periodically inspect the seat belts and their fasteners for damage and wear. If the belts have been subjected to excessive stress as a result of an accident, they should be replaced.
- After using the rear side belts, secure them in the latches provided so that they do not get in the way when getting out of the car and getting into it.
- When carrying cargo in the rear seat, try to secure it with seat belts whenever possible. When braking or accelerating suddenly, a loose load can fall off and cause injury.
- Keep dirt and foreign objects out of the way (especially sweet crumbs and drinks) into the seat belt buckles. Do not expose belt mechanisms to moisture.
- To clean the belts, use special interior cleaners or just warm water. Do not use chemicals, bleach or dyes. Do not allow moisture to enter the inertial belt retractor.
- If the belt has been subjected to severe stress, such as in an accident, it should be replaced along with the fasteners, fasteners and pretensioners. Even though it does not show external signs of damage, it is recommended to replace it, as the internal structure of the belt may be broken.
To use the strap, pull it evenly out of the spool. If the belt is jerked out or the vehicle is tilted, the belt may jam. Position the seat belt correctly to fasten it (see above) and insert the belt tongue into the buckle. If the belt is fastened correctly, you will hear a characteristic click. The fastened belt automatically adjusts in length to fit snugly enough around the person's torso, but leaving him complete freedom of movement.
Warning. Make sure that each belt is located in the appropriate lock.
To unfasten the belt, press the button on the buckle and remove the tongue. Allow the belt to wind evenly and completely around the spool, holding it so that it does not twist.
To adjust the position of the upper front seat belt anchor, press the lock and slide the anchor up or down until the belt passes over the center of the shoulder.
Seat belt pretensioners
The seat belt pretensioners work in conjunction with the appropriate airbag to provide additional protection in the event of a severe frontal or side impact of the vehicle. The principle of their work is to completely eliminate the slack in the seat belt, as a result of which the belt fits as tightly as possible to the body and keeps the person from moving forward.
Note. The seat belt pretensioners will not deploy in the event of a minor frontal or side impact, or a rear impact. But after any frontal or side impact you. however, you should still have your dealer check that the pretensioners are working.
Note. When the seat belt pretensioners are deployed, a small amount of smoke is emitted. This is normal and does not indicate a fire.
Attention! Pretensioners are designed for a single operation, after which they must be replaced. Dealer must replace. Pretensioners require no maintenance or lubrication. If they have been exposed to water or dirt, they should be replaced.
Warning. Repairs involving shock, vibration or heat (above 100°C for at least 6 hours) and carried out in close proximity to the pretensioners may cause them to operate or be damaged. But vibrations and shocks when driving on rough roads do not cause them to work.
Child seats
Child seats designed to safely accommodate children are selected based on the age and height/weight of the child. Your dealer can offer a range of certified seats that can be used on your vehicle (appropriate fastening elements are provided). Child restraint systems designed for ISOFIX attachments are recommended. When using special child seats, you should be aware of the following general points:
- The safest place in a car is in the back seats.
- Never install child restraints on a vehicle seat against which an airbag is installed. The exception is if the vehicle is equipped with a passenger airbag deactivation switch and this switch was deactivated before installing the child seat (the corresponding control lamp on the instrument panel should be lit (see the relevant point in paragraph 2 and below in this paragraph).
- When installing a child seat, be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions. Failure to follow the manufacturer's instructions or modifying the child seat in any way could result in serious injury or death.
Attention! Do not hold the child on your lap. Do not place it on pillows, books, or towels as these items may slip and increase the risk of serious injury or death in a collision.
- In the event of an accident, have your dealer check the child seat for damage.
- Do not expose the unused child seat to direct sunlight.
- If an unused child seat is left in the vehicle, secure it with a seat belt.
- Do not leave children unsupervised in a child safety seat or simply in a car seat.
- Be careful not to pinch the child safety seat in the door or in the seat rail as this could damage it.
- When installing a child seat using a seat belt, do not let the belt slack or twist.
Airbags
The vehicle is equipped with front airbags—driver (in the steering wheel hub) and passenger (in front panel), side airbags (on the sides of the seat backs) and overhead side airbags installed behind the A-pillar trim and headlining on each side of the passenger compartment.
The front airbags will only deploy in severe frontal collisions or collisions where the impact line deviates from the vehicle's axis by no more than 30 degrees. In the event of a severe side impact, the side airbag deployed on the affected side is deployed. The side and curtain airbags will not deploy in minor side collisions, frontal and rear collisions. In all other cases, a sufficiently effective protection is provided by seat belts. Pillows create «protective buffer» between a person and structural elements of the body, reducing the severity of possible injury or eliminating traumatic consequences altogether.
Detailed information about the airbag system is given in paragraph 20 of chapter 12.
The following additional safety considerations should be noted:
- Remember that the presence of an airbag does not exempt you from the need to use seat belts. The effective operation of airbags is only achieved in combination with seat belts. Proper fit required (see above).
- Do not interfere with the deployment of the airbag by placing your feet or other body parts on the airbag module or adjacent elements. Keep your hands on the steering wheel rim while driving so as not to interfere with airbag deployment.
- Do not place any foreign objects on the airbag module cover, i.e., on the steering wheel hub or on the corresponding part of the front panel. Do not label these areas. This may prevent the airbag from deploying normally or, when deployed, may throw these objects into the passenger compartment, injuring the driver and passengers.
- Do not install child restraints on a vehicle seat against which an airbag is installed. There is a risk of death or serious injury if the airbag inflates. Remember that in some cases airbags may also deploy when the vehicle is stationary, so the above requirement also applies to a stationary vehicle.
- All airbag service and repair procedures should only be performed at a dealer service station. When scrapping your vehicle, you must first contact your dealer to dispose of the airbag system.
- Do not attempt to service, repair, replace, modify, or open any component of the airbag system or the electrical wiring located near the system components. Doing so may activate the system and cause injury.
- Do not use any additional seat covers that are not designed for seats with side airbags. These seat covers must be installed by qualified personnel.
- Be sure to contact your dealer if:
- the airbag has deployed;
- the front of the car was damaged (even if the airbags didn't deploy);
- on any element of the airbag module (steering wheel center pad or fascia) there are damages or cracks;
- an attempt was made to steal or break the locks of the car.
- When reselling the vehicle, ALWAYS inform the new owner that the vehicle is equipped with an airbag system and tell the new owner when to replace the airbags.
- Dust generated when airbags are deployed is completely harmless and does not indicate a fire.
To monitor the status of the airbag system, a warning lamp is provided, located on the instrument panel (see relevant paragraph in paragraph 2).
Passenger airbag deactivation
If it is absolutely necessary to carry a child in the front seat, the front airbag on the passenger side can be deactivated. Disabling / activating the airbag is performed using a special switch located on the right side of the front panel. The ignition key is required to turn the switch. The ignition must be off.
To disable the front passenger airbag:
- Switch off the ignition. Remove the key from the ignition lock.
- Open the front passenger door. - Insert the ignition key into the provided slot on the right side of the front panel and turn it to the OFF position (turned off). The front passenger airbag is now disabled. In this case, when the ignition is switched on, the front passenger airbag deactivation indicator lamp will light up (see relevant paragraph in chapter 2). Children can be transported in the front seat, provided that a special child seat is used.
To activate the front passenger airbag:
- Switch off the ignition. Remove the key from the ignition lock.
- Open the front passenger door. - Insert the ignition key into the provided slot on the right side of the front panel and turn it to position 01 \ 1 (included). The front passenger airbag is now activated again. After the ignition is switched on, the airbag deactivation indicator lamp on the instrument panel will illuminate for 6 seconds. Children are NOT allowed in the front seat.
Note. Deactivating the passenger's front airbag does not prevent the side airbag on that side from operating.
