When towing a trailer, you must take into account the characteristics of the vehicle, such as:
- own weight,
- payload,
- full mass,
- maximum load on the front axle,
- maximum load on the rear axle,
- maximum towed weight.
Attention! Never exceed any of these values. Exceeding the total weight of the vehicle with a trailer, the maximum load on the rear axle and the maximum load on the coupling device is NOT ALLOWED. This may adversely affect vehicle handling.
It is recommended to use only original towbars and suitable electrical kits available from dealers. It is also recommended that you have your dealer install the towing device.
When preparing your vehicle for towing a trailer, carefully read the trailer manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. Also do the following:
- Check the pressure in the tires of the car and trailer.
- Check the electrical connection of the trailer to the vehicle's electrical system.
- Check the brakes (in the presence of) and trailer lights.
- Arrange the load in the trailer so that the bulk of the load is as low as possible and. if possible, directly above the axle (axes) trailer or as close to it as possible (to them). Secure the load.
Note. If you cannot evenly distribute the load between the vehicle and the trailer, place more of the load on the vehicle.
Attention! Be especially careful when towing a trailer. Strictly observe the requirements of the Rules of the road. Remember that the presence of a trailer reduces the value of the maximum slope that the car can overcome, increases the braking distance and overtaking distance, reduces maneuverability - in proportion to the mass of the towed trailer.
Attention! Never modify your vehicle's braking system to control trailer brakes. The braking system of the trailer must be completely independent of the hydraulic system of the vehicle.
When driving, also follow the following rules:
- When towing a trailer, always obey the speed limit in force in your country.
- When approaching a steep descent, downshift early. Be aware of the limited capacity of trailer brakes. To avoid overheating of the brakes, depress the brake pedal only at short intervals.
- Be extremely careful on slippery roads
Note. The anti-lock braking system does not affect the operation of the trailer brakes.
- If equipped with air conditioning, to ensure optimal engine performance, turn off the air conditioning when driving with a trailer or heavy load in mountainous terrain with steep descents and ascents
