Using a plastic protective sleeve when installing a drive shaft seal ring

1. Place the front of the vehicle on stands and remove the wheel from the corresponding side.
2. Remove the lower casing (equipment in some versions).
3. Drain the oil from the gearbox.
4. Unscrew the lower ball joint mounting nut and disconnect the hub fastening element from the lower arm using a special puller.

5. Loosen the two intermediate bearing mounting nuts and turn the mounting bolts half a turn to remove their eccentric heads from the bearing housing.
6. Pull the hub away from the vehicle to remove the inner end of the drive shaft and release the intermediate bearing from the installation mount.
7. After removing the drive shaft from the gearbox, slide the dust cover off the inner end of the shaft, marking its location, and use soft wire to hang the shaft from the body.

8. Using a screwdriver as a lever, carefully remove the sealing ring from the gearbox.

9. Clean the O-ring seat, lubricate the working edges of the new O-ring with oil and use a tubular mandrel to install the O-ring into the seat in the gearbox. If the O-ring is equipped with a plastic protective sleeve, it must be installed before installing the drive shaft.
10. Clean the drive shaft splines completely, then apply a thin coat of lubricant to the sealing ring lips and to the splines on the inner end of the drive shaft.
11. Install the dust cover on the end of the shaft so that the flat surface faces the gearbox.
12. Align the drive shaft splines with the differential axle gear splines, then align the intermediate bearing with the unit mount and install the drive shaft into the gearbox.
13. Check that the intermediate bearing is correctly installed, then turn the mounting bolts back 90° so that their heads are positioned opposite the outer bearing ring, and tighten the mounting nuts to the specified torque. Remove the plastic protective ring.
14. Connect the ball joint pin to the lower arm.
15. Install the wheel, then lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel bolts completely.
16. Fill the gearbox with oil.

17. Pull the hub away from the vehicle to remove the inner end of the drive shaft from the transmission.
18. Using a screwdriver as a lever, carefully remove the sealing ring from the gearbox.
19. Clean the O-ring seat, lubricate the working edges of the new O-ring with oil and, using a tubular mandrel, install the O-ring into the seat in the gearbox.
20. Clean the drive shaft splines completely, then apply a thin coat of lubricant to the sealing ring lips and to the splines on the inner end of the drive shaft.
21. Align the splines of the drive shaft with the splines of the differential axle gear and install the drive shaft into the gearbox.
22. Connect the ball joint pin to the lower arm.
23. Install the wheel, then lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel bolts completely.
24. Fill the gearbox with oil.
