Using the Plastic Protective Sleeve When Installing the Drive Shaft O-Ring
1. Place the front of the vehicle on stands and remove the wheel from the appropriate side.
2. Remove bottom cover (equipment in some versions).
3. Drain the oil from the gearbox.
4. Unscrew the lower ball joint nut and remove the hub fastener from the lower arm using a special puller.

5. Loosen the two intermediate bearing mounting nuts and turn the mounting bolts half a turn so as to remove their eccentric heads from the bearing housing.
6. Pull the hub out of the vehicle to remove the inner end of the drive shaft and free the intermediate bearing from the mounting bracket.
7. After removing the drive shaft from the gearbox, slide the dust cover from the inner end of the shaft, marking its location, and using a soft wire, hang the shaft to the body.
8. Being careful, using a screwdriver, used as a lever, remove the sealing ring from the gearbox.
9. Clean the O-ring seat, lubricate the sealing lips of the new O-ring with oil, and use a tubular drift to install the O-ring into the seat in the gearbox. If the O-ring is provided with a plastic protective sleeve, it must be installed before installing the drive shaft.
10. Completely clean the splines of the drive shaft, then apply a light film of lubricant to the sealing lips of the O-ring and to the splines on the inner end of the drive shaft.
11. Install the dust cover on the end of the shaft so that the flat surface faces towards the gearbox.
12. Align the splines of the drive shaft with the splines of the side gear of the differential, then align the intermediate bearing with the suspension of the unit, and install the drive shaft into the gearbox.
13. Check that the intermediate bearing is properly seated, then turn the mounting bolts back 90°so that their heads are against the bearing outer race and tighten the mounting nuts to the correct torque. Remove the plastic protective ring.
14. Connect the ball joint trunnion to the lower arm.
15. Install the wheel, then lower the vehicle and finally tighten the wheel bolts.
16. Pour oil into the gearbox.

17. Pull the hub out of the vehicle to remove the inner end of the drive shaft from the gearbox.
18. Being careful, using a screwdriver, used as a lever, remove the sealing ring from the gearbox.
19. Clean the o-ring seat, lubricate the sealing lips of the new o-ring with oil, and using a tubular drift, install the o-ring into the seat in the gearbox.
20. Completely clean the splines of the drive shaft, then apply a light film of lubricant to the sealing lips of the O-ring and to the splines on the inner end of the drive shaft.
21. Align the splines of the drive shaft with the splines of the differential side gear and install the drive shaft into the gearbox.
22. Connect the ball joint trunnion to the lower arm.
23. Install the wheel, then lower the vehicle and finally tighten the wheel bolts.
24. Pour oil into the gearbox.
