Driver airbag
The airbag system is designed to provide additional protection to the driver in the event of severe frontal vehicle impacts. It provides effective protection to the driver only when the seat belts are used at the same time. The airbag will only deploy in the event of a severe impact, in which the belts alone are not enough to hold the person's body. The role of the cushion is to fill the space between the driver and the steering wheel to reduce forward movement of the body and thus minimize the risk of head and chest injury.
In the event of a frontal collision, the electronic impact sensor for the airbag and the pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioners detects more or less severe deceleration of the vehicle. If the trigger threshold for the pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioners is reached in a collision, the sensor sends a signal to the front belt retractor. With a stronger impact, a second signal is sent to the airbag model located in the steering wheel hub. The pillow instantly ejects and inflates. After a few fractions of a second, the airbag, inflating, fills the space between the driver and the steering wheel, thereby preventing the driver's head and chest from moving dangerously forward. Immediately after the impact, the gas contained in the cushion escapes from the holes in the back of the shell. This is provided in order not to disturb the visibility from the driver's seat and to ensure the possibility of quickly leaving the car.
Passenger airbag
The passenger's airbag inflates at the same time as the driver's airbag and functions in the same way.
Attention! The gas escaping from the pillow may be a minor irritant.
The airbag system will deploy in the event of a frontal impact depending on the amount of vehicle deceleration. The latter is entirely determined by the nature of the impact (collision speed, type of obstacle).
The airbag system will not deploy in side or rear impacts, or in a light or moderate frontal impact, when there are enough seat belts to provide optimal protection.
For the most effective airbag protection, the use of seat belts is essential. In the event of a collision, if the seat belt is not worn, the driver or passenger begins to move forward from the very beginning of the impact, which leaves no room for the airbag to deploy so that it can completely fill the space intended for it.
It is forbidden to install a steering wheel from other models. Any other steering wheel is not compatible with the rest of the security system, which may cause untimely operation or failure of the system.
Do not pierce the steering wheel hub containing the cushion or subject it to strong impacts. It is forbidden to remove the steering wheel.
The airbag system can only be used once. After an accident, check the airbag and seat belt systems. After the airbags have been deployed, the following must be replaced:
- steering wheel with cushion built into the hub;
- passenger airbag;
- electronic pillow control unit;
- seat belt tensioners.
In conclusion, check the serviceability of the entire system at the service station.
For safety reasons, check the airbag system if the vehicle has been stolen or attempted.
Airbag health monitoring
To control the serviceability of the pillow, a signaling device located on the instrument panel is used. It lights up when the ignition is turned on and should go out after 6 seconds.
Airbag malfunction is possible if the indicator does not light up when the ignition is turned on, does not go out 6 seconds after the ignition is turned on, and flashes for 5 minutes, and then remains on. In these cases, check the airbag system.
All elements of the airbag are designed for operation within 10 years from the date of manufacture of the car. At the end of the specified period, they must be replaced.
If the car is equipped with an airbag for the passenger, it is forbidden to place a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat and put your feet or any objects on the front console.
