Automatic transmission 4НР20
A, B. Mode switching buttons
Engine starting
To start the engine, put the gearshift lever in the N or P position. Depress the brake pedal when starting the engine and when shifting gears.
Gear lever position
It is confirmed by the indications of the pointer on the instrument panel.
P is for parking. It is used simultaneously with the parking brake when the car is parked.
R - reverse. This gear can only be engaged after the vehicle has come to a complete stop and the engine is idling.
N - neutral gear. If, while driving, you accidentally put the lever in position N, then before engaging any forward gear, switch to idling.
D - driving. In this position, 4 gears are automatically engaged. Gearshift points are selected depending on the given program.
3 - only 3 first gears are automatically engaged. This position is recommended when frequent shifting from 3rd to 4th gear is required (city driving or winding road).
2 or L - only 2 first gears are automatically engaged. this position is especially convenient when driving on mountain roads, because. Allows full use of engine power on climbs and engine braking on descents.
1 - only first gear is engaged. Used on steep slopes, especially when a trailer is towed.
Features of the AL4 gearbox
Each time the ignition is switched on, the S and * warning lamps flash three times.
The first gear is engaged from position L by pressing switch 1.
To exit position 1, press switch 1 again or move the shift knob.
Programs of work
The gearbox provides the implementation of 3 work programs:
- automatic (normal);
- sports;
- snow riding.
Pressing buttons A or B once activates programs respectively "sports" or "snow riding". The choice of program is confirmed by a pointer on the instrument panel. Pressing buttons A or B again returns to "automatic" program.
Automatic (normal) program
Gear shifting occurs automatically depending on a number of parameters: driving style, road profile, vehicle loading. The gearbox continuously selects from the recorded programs the one that is best adapted to the driving conditions. Thus, with a moderate driving style, a program is selected that allows you to save fuel. When driving faster with intense acceleration, the gearbox will select a more sporty program with gear changes at higher engine speeds. Switching to higher or lower gears occurs in different modes depending on the road profile (horizontal, lifting) and vehicle loading.
Sport program
The sport program allows for a sportier driving style and faster acceleration.
Snow program
In position D, the snow program is activated, which provides a smooth ride on slippery roads to improve traction and handling. The vehicle starts in second or third gear, depending on the pull-off effort required, and downshifts occur at lower engine speeds.
In positions 3, 2 or L, the gearbox operates like a manual. In position 3, pull-off occurs in 3rd gear and this gear remains engaged at all times. In position 2 or L, the vehicle starts in second gear and this gear remains engaged.
Features of work
Under prolonged braking, the transmission automatically shifts to a lower gear for more effective engine braking.
If the gas pedal is suddenly released (for example, you saw an obstacle on the road), the transmission does not shift to a higher gear. This serves to improve safety.
In order to reduce the emission of toxic components, a special program is used that allows the engine to warm up to the optimum temperature faster.
Downshifting
To quickly get maximum acceleration during acceleration without touching the gear lever, press the accelerator pedal all the way down. The transmission will automatically downshift or select the gear that gives the engine maximum power.
Attention! Any malfunctions in the system are accompanied by simultaneous flashing of indicators S and * on the instrument panel. In this case, you can feel a noticeable shock when you turn on the reverse gear (it won't damage the gearbox).
If the idle speed is increased, the vehicle may start moving without depressing the gas pedal.
Do not press the gas pedal when changing gear when the vehicle is stationary.
When shifting gears, the brake pedal must be depressed.
If the vehicle is braked, do not press the accelerator pedal while in gear.
Do not downshift to brake on slippery roads.
Never place the shift lever in N, P, or R while the vehicle is still rolling.
Electronic Suspension
The suspension automatically and immediately adapts to different driving styles and road profiles, providing the greatest passenger comfort and vehicle stability. Thus, the suspension remains soft most of the time, however, with a hard driving character (sports driving, sharp turns, overtaking) it automatically becomes stiffer, allowing the vehicle to maintain optimal stability.
To select SPORT mode, press switch 1. The indicator light will come on. In this switch position, the suspension operates in sport mode. To return to automatic operation, press switch 1 again. The indicator will turn off.
The malfunction is determined by the signaling device on the instrument panel. It comes on for about 3 seconds each time the ignition is turned on. When the indicator flashes, a system malfunction is possible.
