1. The automatic transmission has 4 forward gears and a reverse gear. In order to save fuel, the torque converter is completely bypassed in the highest (4th) gear and partially bypassed in 3rd gear, which reduces losses due to torque converter slippage.
2. Gear shifting occurs automatically depending on the speed and engine load. A kick-down system is included for improved acceleration with the throttle fully depressed.
3. Instead of a conventional oil cooler, a coolant-to-oil heat exchanger located on the side of the gearbox is used to cool the transmission fluid.
