22. Using an open-end wrench, disconnect the ball joint of the gear selector cable from the shift lever on the transmission.

23. Set the gearshift lever to position "P" (forward to the end). Set the gear selector lever (inside the car) to the "P" position. Check that the levers are set correctly by trying to move the car with the handbrake released (the parking dog must be turned on). After checking, apply the handbrake.

24. Without moving the shift lever, tighten the gear selector cable to remove slack and screw the ball joint higher up the cable (or pull it down the rope) so that the hinge fits onto the shift lever without tension on the cable. Press the hinge back onto the lever.
25. Start the engine and check that all gears are engaged. If necessary, you can further adjust the cable.
26. Install the air cleaner in place.
