- Defective engine or gearbox mount or loose mounting bolts. This means that when the clutch is engaged, the power unit begins to rock.
- Burnout or hardening of the driven disk linings, i.e. uneven friction coefficient between the clutch and the flywheel. This can happen after towing another vehicle for a long time.
- The drive disk is warped due to overheating, meaning the working surface has an uneven roughness.
- To determine the source of the defect in such cases, it is necessary to remove the clutch and driven disc.
If the clutch cable breaks or the clutch itself fails on the road, you can continue driving at least to the nearest service station. With a certain amount of skill, you can even change gears. If the cable breaks while driving and with the gear engaged, you should release the gas and shift into neutral. If this does not work, give a little gas and turn off the gear.
Starting off with the clutch not working is done as follows:
- Turn off the engine and engage first gear.
- Turn on the starter. The car will start to move jerkily until the engine speed matches the vehicle speed. If the engine is cold, it should be pre-warmed to prevent it from stalling immediately. When driving on a flat road in second gear, you can get to a service station this way.
- When attempting to shift into a higher gear, start off in first gear and bring the engine speed up to approximately 1000 rpm. Ease off the accelerator slightly and shift the transmission into neutral. After this, completely release the gas pedal and try to engage second gear. When the engine and gearbox speeds are compensated, the gear will engage. If the shift time is delayed, you should give a little gas again to engage the gear. Shift into a higher gear only at low speeds, approximately 20 km/h for second gear, approximately 25 km/h for third gear and approximately 35 km/h for fourth gear.
- When downshifting, increase engine speed. Release the gas a little, shift into neutral and gently press the gas pedal. At the same moment, start operating the gear shift lever. When the engine speed is correctly selected, the gear engages easily. When downshifting, you should also reduce your speed. If grinding noises occur, try shifting gears again. Gear shifting is made easier by synchronization.
