The heating and ventilation system includes a four-speed electric blower (located behind the front panel), face vents in the center and along the edges of the front panel and air ducts in the front footwells.
The control unit is located in the front panel. The controls actuate dampers to direct and mix the air passing through the various parts of the heating/ventilation system. The dampers are located in the air distribution box, which acts as a central distribution box, passing air to the various air ducts and vents.
Cold air enters the system through a grill at the rear of the engine compartment. If required, the air flow can be increased using a blower fan. The air then flows through various channels according to the settings of the controls. «Used» the air is expelled through ducts at the rear of the vehicle. If warm air is required, cold air is forced through the heater core, which is heated by engine coolant.
On models with air conditioning, if necessary, the outside air supply to the vehicle can be stopped, allowing the air to circulate inside the vehicle. This is useful for preventing bad odors from entering the outside of the car, but can only be used for a short time as the air recirculated inside the car soon becomes stale.
