Removal
TUD3 engine
1. The air cleaner housing is built into the inlet manifold. Cover and element removal are described in Chapter 1B.
2. If necessary, the inlet duct can be removed once its retaining clip has been slackened, the nut securing it to the cylinder head has been removed and the two pop-rivets securing it to the crossmember have been drilled out.
TUD5 engines
3. Detach the ventilation pipe from the rear of the cylinder head cover.
4. Slacken the retaining clip and detach the connecting tube with the inlet manifold air distributor housing from the air cleaner housing cover.
5. Free the connecting tube from the inlet manifold air distributor housing, turning it anticlockwise to release its fastenings.
6. Slacken the retaining clip and detach the inlet duct at the front of the air cleaner housing cover.
7. Slacken the bolt, then remove the air cleaner housing from its bracket. Recover any displaced rubber fastening rings.
Refitting
8. Refitting is the reverse of removal. On TUD 3 engines, tighten the inlet duct retaining clip securely, then fix the duct in position with the pop-rivets.
