Removing
1. On sedan models (Saloon) remove the luggage compartment upholstery, for which, using a lever, remove the central part of the piston and unscrew the luggage compartment trim to access the upper shock absorber mount (the arrow indicates the top nut).
2. On combi models (Estate) open the rear door and remove the luggage compartment trim on the desired side by unscrewing the screws and removing the rear trim plate.
3. Then use a lever to remove the center of the mounting clips, remove the plastic pocket and move the luggage compartment trim to access the upper shock absorber mounting (the arrow indicates the nut of the upper mounting of the rear shock absorber on Estate models).
4. Raise the rear of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the corresponding rear wheel.
5. Using a jack, raise the lower control arm until the rear suspension coil spring is slightly compressed.
6. In the luggage compartment, unscrew the upper shock absorber mounting nut and remove the upper rubber washer.
7. From the bottom of the car, unscrew the lower shock absorber mounting bolt and remove the shock absorber with rubber installation elements and an emphasis from under the car. Remove the dust cover and stop from the shock absorber.
Examination
1. Check the shock absorber for tightness and mechanical damage.
2. By moving the shock absorber rod, check the uniformity of its stroke.
3. The resistance to movement of the shock absorber rod in both directions should be uniform and smooth. If the movement is uneven or the shock absorber shows visible damage, it must be replaced.
4. It is also necessary to check the condition of the rubber pads.
Installation
1. Lubricate the lower shock mounting bolt with Molykote G Rapide Plus.
2. Install the stop and dust cover on the shock absorber.
3. Completely remove the shock absorber rod and install the shock absorber in the car. From the luggage compartment, install a rubber cushion on the shock absorber rod and tighten the upper shock absorber mounting nut a few turns.
4. Align the bottom of the shock absorber with the installation location on the lower arm, install the bolt and screw a new nut onto it, without completely tightening it.
5. Torque tighten the upper shock absorber mounting nut and install the luggage compartment trim.
6. Install the rear wheel and lower the car. Rock the car so that the rear suspension elements fall into place. After that tighten the bottom bolt of fastening of a back shock-absorber to the demanded moment.
