M - ignition. When the key is turned to this position, the following indicator lights come on: (see illustration):

- - charging the battery;
- parking brake/brake fluid level;
- engine oil pressure;
- coolant temperature;
- engine self-diagnosis;
- ESP;
- ASR;
- airbags;
- front passenger airbag deactivated;
- preheating. Diesel-powered vehicles;
- unfastened seat belt;
- fuel reserve;
- immediate stop (STOP);
D - engine start.
After starting the engine, immediately release the ignition key. Never attempt to turn the starter while the engine is running.
Starting a car with a gasoline engine
1. Make sure the gear shift lever is in neutral position. If the gear is engaged, depress the clutch pedal.
Caution! Do not press the accelerator pedal when starting the engine.
2. Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to position D. As soon as the engine starts, release the key and it will automatically move to position M.
When starting the engine in cold weather, it is recommended to depress the clutch pedal. If the engine fails to start on the first attempt, try starting again after waiting approximately 10 seconds.
Caution! If starting is difficult, do not use the starter for a long time.
Starting a car with a diesel engine
3. Turn the ignition key to position M and wait until the preheating indicator light goes out. After this, start the engine by turning the key in the ignition switch to position D and release the ignition key.
Caution! When starting a cold engine, depress the clutch pedal and start the engine after the preheating indicator light goes out.
Cars with turbocharged diesel engines
4. Start a cold engine and wait for some time to allow the engine to stabilize its speed. This can be recognized by the tachometer reading.
Caution: Before shutting off a turbocharged diesel engine, let it idle for a while. This is necessary to prevent coking of the turbocharger.
