To drain the water condensate, connect a small hose to the fitting (3) in Figure 285, and place the other end in a container placed underneath. Drain approximately 100 cm³ of fuel together with water. Tighten the fitting screw.

The filter element is replaced as follows:
- Drain the fuel from the filter as described above.
- Roto-Diesel (see Figure 286):

- Unscrew the bolt (1) and remove the filter element (4).
- Thoroughly clean the bottom of the housing and install a new filter element. Both sealing rings (7) and the sealing ring (3) must be replaced. Also check the position of the sealing ring (2) under the bolt head.
- Attach the hose to the air bleed valve (6). Pump with a hand pump until fuel flows out of the hose without containing air bubbles.
- Close the air bleed valve (6).
Bosch filter (see Figure 287):

- The figure shows the fuel filter of previous car models. The appearance of the filter may vary.
- Unscrew the bolt (7) from the bottom of the filter and remove the filter housing with the filter element inside. Clean the bottom of the case thoroughly.
- Insert a new filter element (filter cartridge). Sealing rings (3) and (4) must be replaced. Also check the position of the sealing ring (b) under the bolt head.
- Open the air bleed valve (2) and pump with a hand pump until fuel flows out free of air bubbles. Close the air bleed valve (2). Bleeding the system is not required, as it occurs automatically.
