1. Since the end of 1989. (205 models) or since the beginning of 1990. (309 models) changes have been made to the design of the fuel filter. The filter with water heating of the base is no longer installed. The fuel is heated in a heat exchanger on the engine.

2. On 1993 models. (except for 205 and 309 turbocharged models) the fuel filter has been moved to the housing on the cylinder head, located above the thermostat housing and the outlet of the cylinder head water jacket. The new housing is equipped with a water detector and a drain plug in the base. A manual priming pump and a two-valve check system are provided.

3. To pump fuel, turn on the ignition and squeeze the hand pump bulb several times with your hand (until resistance begins to be felt). There is no need to open the drain screws. The swapping procedure is described in more detail in the relevant section.

4. Before removing the filter, drain the fuel from its housing by loosening the drain plug. If not already done, attach a plastic tube to the cork and lower the other end of the tube into a suitable container.

5. After draining the fuel, unscrew the cover bolts, remove the cover and take out the filter. If you are not going to change the filter, you should inspect the rubber seal before installing it back in place. The filter is installed in reverse order. Upon completion, pump up the fuel as described above. Removing the water detector should not cause any problems (see photos).
