Attention! Before performing the following procedure, refer to the precautions described in paragraph «Safety first!» at the beginning of this Guide, and follow them carefully. Gasoline is a very dangerous and volatile liquid, and no amount of precautions for handling it will be superfluous.
1. The fuel filter is located under the bottom at the rear of the vehicle, on the side of the fuel tank. To gain access to the filter, place chocks under the front wheels, raise the rear of the vehicle and securely support it under (see «Lifting and placing the car on supports»).
2. Place a suitable container under the filter to collect spilled fuel.
3. Wrap the fuel line connections tightly with rags to absorb the jet of fuel that may come out when the fuel pressure is released, and then press the clips and slowly disconnect the corresponding fuel line. Disconnect the other tubing from the opposite end of the filter and allow the filter contents to drain into a container (pic. 20.3).
Pic. 20.3. Press the clips and disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter
4. Release the lug on the fixing collar and remove the fuel filter from the appropriate holder, noting for yourself how it is installed (pic. 20.4). Recycle «old» filter properly. It has a high flammability and, if thrown into a fire, can explode.
Pic. 20.4. Release the lug on the fixing clamp and remove the fuel filter from the corresponding holder
5. Insert the new filter into place, orienting it correctly. There will be or an arrow on the filter housing (indicating the correct direction of fuel flow), or marking «OUT» at one end (pointing to the outlet side of the filter).
6. Attach the filter securely to its holder, and then connect both fuel lines. Make sure the pipelines «snapped into place» on the filter, and make sure they are secured with quick couplings.
7. Start the engine and check the fuel filter for signs of leaks.
