Removal and installation the toothed rack support (Peugeot 206)

Remove the toothed rack support in the following order:
  • remove the steering gear;


Caution: To prevent dirt from entering the power steering circuit, close the two holes in the distribution valve and in the two power steering pipes with plastic plugs.

  • unscrew bolt 1 (figure 8.14);
  • remove spring 2 and sealing ring 3;

  • remove support 1 (figure 8.15) toothed rack and ring 2;
  • cover the resulting hole with a lint-free cloth to prevent dirt from getting in.

Install the rack support in the following order:
  • lubricate the parts with TOTAL N3945 grease;
  • install ring 2 and support 1;
  • install spring 2 (see figure 8.14);
  • set the toothed rack to the middle position and tighten bolt 1 to a torque of 5 Nm;
  • move the rack several times from one stop to the other;
  • set the rack to the middle position;
  • adjust the gap between the rack and support;
  • install the steering gear on the vehicle.
