Removal

Air filter

1. Loosen the clamps and remove the intake duct from the air filter housing.

2. On 1.9L engines, disconnect the accelerator cable from the air cleaner cover. On 2.1L engines, remove the coolant hose and oil separator from the filter cover.

3. Unscrew the air filter cover mounting screws. Lift the cover and remove the filter element.

4. Lift the air cleaner housing upwards so that all the lower elements can be disconnected. On some models, you will need to disconnect a small plastic fastening element (indicated by the arrow), securing the body to the lower air intake tube.

5. To remove the air intake tube, unscrew the air filter housing hanger bolts and remove the hanger. Release the other end of the air intake tube and remove it.

Intake channels

The air intake ducts are a complex system of flexible hoses and rigid ducts that connect the air filter, cooler and turbocharger.

The intake ports are located at the top and rear of the engine, and on 2.1L engines, on the back of the engine between the cylinder block and the oil pan. To remove the pipes from the back of the engine, you must raise the front of the car.

1. To remove the intake pipe or duct, loosen the clamps on the ends of the pipe and unscrew the bolts securing the pipe to the bracket. On 2.1-liter engines, to remove the front air pipe, disconnect the electrical connector of the intake air temperature sensor.
