When doing work on your own, unloading the engine mounts can be done by installing a sufficiently strong beam or channel on the folds of both mudguards. The engine is covered from below by a cable or wire, the ends of which are wound onto the beam and twisted on the beam using a crank (see illustration 2.0).
2.0 Mounting the engine in the engine compartment when removing it from the suspension mounts using a self-made tool
Removal of a transmission is carried out as follows. However, it must be borne in mind that each model of the gearbox has its own characteristics that do not affect the general order of work.
1. Place the hood upright. Depending on the gearbox model, it is possible to remove the hood to remove the gearbox from the engine compartment.
2. Disconnect the terminals of both wires from the battery. To remove some models of gearboxes, you must also remove the battery tray itself, because it will interfere with subsequent work.
3. Raise the front of the car and install it on the goats. The height of the goat must be sufficient to work under the vehicle.
4. Remove both front wheels by undoing the mounting bolts before placing the vehicle on the trestles.
5. Turn out bolts of fastening of a mudguard of the engine and remove a mudguard.
6. Disconnect both wheel drive axles (see relevant chapter).
7. Disconnect the front engine mount by unscrewing the mounting bolt.
8. Turn out a bolt of fastening of a reception pipe of mufflers to the case of a transmission, and also disconnect the holder of a plug of a plait of wires.
9. Release the wiring harness attached to the battery holder in the engine compartment.
10. Turn away bolts of fastening of the electronic block of management and remove the block.
11. Remove the air filter. If necessary, you can also remove the air intake box on the intake manifold.
12. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle opening lever. To do this, pull the cable forward and remove it from the lever, as well as from the counter support.
13. Disconnect the gearshift mechanism or remove the gearshift cable lugs from the gearshift lever.
14. Disconnect (if any) wire from gearbox «masses» (-), reversing light switch wire, speedometer drive shaft, speedometer sensor plug. Depending on the type of engine and fuel injection system, there may be other wires on the gearbox. All of them must be disconnected.
15. Turn out bolts of fastening of a starter and disconnect a starter. Set the starter aside without disconnecting the wires from it. Do not hang the starter from the wires connected to it, even though the wires seem to be strong enough.
16. Turn out, operating from below the car, a stopper of a drain opening on the bottom part of a transmission.
17. Drain the oil from the gearbox housing into a clean container and replace the plug. The container must have a volume of at least 2 liters.
18. Turn out bolts of a case of coupling. If so, remove the flywheel guard.
After completing all of the above work, lift the engine to unload its mounts. The load on the supports should be minimal.
19. Fix the gearbox on the cable and lift it with a crane.
20. Disconnect the gearbox mounting bracket.
21. Turn out bolts of fastening of a transmission to the engine. Two bolts secure the box at the top and three at the bottom.
22. Be convinced that the transmission is well fixed by a cable and disconnect the engine and a transmission. The box sits on dowel pins so it needs to be pushed from side to side to get it away from the engine (see illustration).
2.22 Removing the gearbox and removing it from the engine compartment
If, when pushing the gearbox away from the engine, one of the locating pins comes out with the gearbox, then put it together with the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine. In the absence of a crane to lift the gearbox, it can be removed by moving a mobile hoist under it. When installing the box on the lift, place it on wooden slats.
