Note. The layout of the battery shelf and baseplate varies considerably by model and year. The procedures for typical arrangements that may be encountered are described below.
Removing
1. Remove the battery as described in paragraph 4.
2. If necessary, remove the air filter and air intake duct elements to gain access to the battery shelf (see relevant part of chapter 4).
3. On models where the ECM is located at the end of the battery shelf, remove the cover and disconnect the electrical connector (-s) BEU. Alternatively, unscrew the BEU base plate bolts and separate the base plate from the battery shelf.
4. Release all appropriate clamps securing the electrical wiring to the shelf and remove the battery shelf from the engine compartment.
5. To remove the base plate, remove the bolts that secure the base plate to the top of the left engine/gearbox mount (pic. 5.5).
Pic. 5.5. Remove the bolts (marked with arrows) attaching the base plate to the top of the engine/gearbox mount
6. On diesel models, remove the nuts and bolts and remove the vacuum reservoir and solenoid valves from the side of the base plate (pic. 5.6).
Pic. 5.6. On diesel models, unscrew the nuts and remove the bolts (marked with arrows) and remove the vacuum tank and solenoid valves from the base plate
7. On later models with a 2.0L diesel engine, release the relay box from the front of the base plate (pic. 5.7).
Pic. 5.7. On later models with a 2.0L diesel engine, release the relay box (marked with an arrow) from the front of the base plate
8. Release all additional clips and remove the support plate from the engine compartment.
Installation
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the base plate mounting bolts securely.
