Attention! When installing the thermostat, a new O-ring must be installed.
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. On 2.1 liter turbodiesel engines, the thermostat housing is mounted on the rear right side of the cylinder block and the front of the vehicle must be raised to access the thermostat. All other models thermostat housing (indicated by an arrow) mounted on the left front side of the cylinder head.
3. If necessary, remove the electrical wiring and hoses from the mounting brackets and take them away from the thermostat housing.
4. Disconnect the coolant hose from the thermostat housing.
5. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the cover of the thermostat casing.
6. Remove the thermostat from the casing.
Examination
1. A rough test of a thermostat can be done by hanging it from a thread in a glass vessel filled with water and heating the water to a boil. When the water boils, the thermostat should open. Otherwise, replace it.
2. The thermostat opening temperature is marked on the thermostat.
3. A thermostat that does not close when the water cools should also be replaced.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points:
- always install a new seal (photo on the left - installing a new sealing ring on the thermostat, photo on the right - installing the thermostat in the casing);
- on models where the coolant hose is snap-fitted to the thermostat housing, the o-ring in the connector must be replaced;
- top up the cooling system.
