2. Remove the air cleaner (see chapter 3B).
3. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the upper hose from the thermostat housing cover (see photo).

4. Unscrew 4 bolts and remove the thermostat housing cover from the cylinder head water outlet. There is no need to disconnect the fast idle cable. Remove the gasket (see photos).

5. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring from the cover and pull out the thermostat (see photo).

6. If necessary, remove the rubber sealing ring from the thermostat (see photo).

7. To check the operation of the thermostat, lower it on a string into a container with cold water and check that the thermostat is first closed. Heat the water and check that the thermostat starts to open at the temperature specified in Specifications. Continue heating the water and check the thermostat's full opening temperature and the valve's minimum stroke. When finished, allow the water to cool and check that the thermostat is completely closed. A faulty thermostat must be replaced.
8. The thermostat is installed in reverse order. When installing the thermostat into the cover, make sure that the ventilation hole is on top and replace the gasket with a new one. Fill the system with coolant (see section 6).
