Crankshaft main journal bearing liners

(Original published on the portal PeugeotBook)

Marking of the crankshaft bearing class (zone "a").

Marking of camshaft bearing classes on a reconditioned crankshaft (zone "b").

Marking of crankshaft bearing classes on the crankshaft and on the cylinder block (zone "c").

The working clearance in the crankshaft bearings is ensured by using three classes of lower smooth liners (from the side of the crankshaft bearing caps).

Upper liners (with grooves)

Upper liners (with grooves)

There is only one class for upper liners (with grooves) (from the cylinder block side). The upper bearing shells with grooves are marked in the "d" zone with the part number.

Lower liners (smooth)

Note: Positioning the lower liners requires the use of a special tool.

The lower bearing shells of the crankshaft main journals are marked in the "e" zone with a color mark. The correct bearing shells should be selected using the pairing table using the "a" and "c" markings. The first sign corresponds to main journal No.5, the second to main journal No.4. and so on.

Note: The crankshaft main journals are marked 1 through 5, journal #1 is located on the flywheel side.
