
The sensor is located on the gearbox opposite the drive gear teeth. The sensor transmits information about the output shaft speed to the gearbox ECU. Based on this information, the gearbox ECU makes a decision about gear shifting, determines slippage in the clutches and brakes when shifting gears, and thus regulates the gear engagement time and adjusts the auto-tuning parameters.
The sensor uses the same operating principles as the input shaft speed sensor.
