Note: Later models will require a rivet gun and appropriate rivets for installation.


Removal



1. Remove the windshield wiper arm (see paragraph 13).

2. Remove the tailgate trim panel as described in chapter 11.

3. On earlier models, remove the three nuts securing the windshield wiper motor bracket to the tailgate.

4. On later models, use an 8mm drill bit to carefully drill out the heads of the pop rivets that secure the wiper motor bracket to the door (figure 15.4).

Warning. Be extremely careful not to damage the motor or tailgate when drilling out the rivets.


5. After unscrewing three nuts or removing three rivets, disconnect the electrical connector, disconnect the washer hose and remove the wiper motor from the tailgate. Be careful not to let the bushings fall out of the rubber motor mounts.

6. Remove the wiper motor sealing bushing from the door glass.

7. If applicable, remove the remainder of each rivet from the motor/tailgate bracket. Make sure all remaining rivets are removed.



Installation



8. Before installation, inspect the sealing bushing and rubber mounts for signs of damage or deterioration and replace if necessary.

9. Correctly install the rubber sealing grommet onto the tailgate glass and properly install the rubber supports and bushings onto the motor support bracket.

10. Bring the windshield wiper motor into its normal position and secure it with nuts or new explosive rivets.

11. Connect the electrical connector and connect the washer hose to the electric motor. and then install the trim panel on the tailgate. Turn on the ignition, then activate the windshield wiper and allow it to stop in the base position.

12. Install the windshield wiper arm as described in paragraph 13.
