1.4L engines
Removal
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery (see "Disconnecting the battery").
2. Press the clamp and disconnect the ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover (figure 4.2).
Figure 4.2. Disconnect the ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover
3. On later models, remove the ignition coil pack from the top of the spark plugs as described in chapter 5B.
4. Unscrew the two nuts and remove the sealing washers (if available), then remove the cylinder head cover together with its rubber seal. Inspect the seal for signs of damage or deterioration and replace if necessary.
5. Remove the spacer from each cover stud and then remove the oil deflector plate (figure 4.5, a, b).

Installation
6. Carefully clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and cover and remove all traces of oil.
7. Install the rubber seal around the perimeter of the cylinder head cover, positioning it correctly along the entire length (figure 4.7).
Figure 4.7. Properly install the rubber seal on the cylinder head cover
8. Install the oil deflector plate and then install the spacers onto the cover studs.
9. Carefully install the cylinder head cover onto the engine, being extremely careful not to displace the rubber seal.
10. Install the sealing washers (if available) and screw on the cover mounting nuts, and then tighten them to the specified torque.
11. If applicable, install the ignition coil assembly (see chapter 5B), and then connect the ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover. Finally, connect the battery.

Removal
12. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery (see "Disconnecting the battery") and remove the ignition coil as described in chapter 5B.
13. Working in a crisscross pattern, gradually and evenly loosen the cylinder head cover mounting bolts and remove the cover. Remove the gasket.
Installation
14. Carefully clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and cover and remove all traces of oil.
15. Check the condition of the composite cover gasket and reuse it if it is not damaged. If the gasket is damaged, it can be repaired using silicone sealant.
16. Install the cover and tighten the bolts in the prescribed sequence (figure 4.16).

17. Install the ignition coil (see chapter 5B).
18. Connect the battery.
