1. After installing the engine in the vehicle, check the engine oil and coolant levels again. Check one last time that you have installed and connected everything and that there are no tools or rags left in the engine compartment.
2. Turn on the ignition and immediately start cranking the engine with the starter until the low oil pressure warning light goes out.
3. Create pressure in the fuel system as described in chapter 4A, and then start the engine. Please note that this may take a little longer than usual. This is explained by the need to return the fuel system to its normal operating mode.
4. With the engine idling, check for fuel, coolant and oil leaks. Don't worry if you notice some unusual odors and smoke coming from heated elements that have had oil on them.
5. Assuming that all is well, leave the engine running in idle mode until you feel that hot coolant has started to circulate through the upper radiator hose, then turn off the engine.
6. Allow the engine to cool and recheck the oil and coolant levels as described in "Weekly Checks." Adjust the level if necessary.

7. If new pistons, rings or main bearings have been installed, the engine should be treated as new. It should be broken in during the first 800 km. Avoid running the engine at full throttle or low RPM in any gear. At the end of this period, it is recommended to change the oil and filter.
