Detect the source of the short circuit in the following order:
  • disconnect electrical consumers;
  • remove the appropriate fuse and connect the multimeter leads to the fuse leads;
  • apply power to the circuits, remembering that some electrical circuits are turned on when the key in the ignition switch is turned to a certain position;
  • if voltage is present in the circuit (what does the test lamp or multimeter readings indicate), which means there is a short circuit in the circuit;
  • if there is no voltage present during the test, but the fuse still blows when that circuit load is connected, this indicates that that load element is faulty.
