To check the oil pressure on a running engine, if you have the appropriate adapter, you can screw a pressure gauge into the hole under the oil pressure switch on the underside of the oil filter. In this case, proceed as follows:
  • Warm up the engine to an operating temperature of 80°C.
  • Check and, if necessary, adjust the engine oil level.
  • Let the engine idle for 5 minutes until the radiator fan turns off.
  • Turn off the engine, disconnect the wire from the oil pressure switch and unscrew the switch. The switch is located above the oil filter.
  • Screw in the adapter with the copper washer and connect the pressure gauge.
  • Start the engine and let it idle. At these revolutions there should be a corresponding reading on the pressure gauge.
  • Increase engine speed to 4000 rpm and check whether the oil pressure has increased to the value specified in the table of sizes and adjustments.
  • The values given in the table apply to a new engine. If the engine has significant mileage, the oil pressure at idle may be lower.
  • Disconnect the pressure gauge and screw in the oil pressure switch with the copper gasket. Tighten the switch to a torque of 22 Nm. Access to the oil pressure switch is quite difficult. It should be noted that Peugeot service stations use a special key.
