The engine oil level is checked in the usual way. The amount of missing oil can be determined using the dipstick. The difference between the "Max" and "Min" marks is 1.5 liters. Therefore, to bring the oil to the desired level when the oil level is at its lowest, just add a 1-liter can of oil. Before a long trip, be sure to check the oil level.
Some information about engine oil consumption. If you notice that your engine is consuming too much oil, this could be due to:
- The valve stem oil deflector rings are worn and need to be replaced. They can be replaced without removing the cylinder head, but this requires a special tool. Therefore, you should either have this work done by a service station, or remove the cylinder head and replace the rings yourself.
- Piston rings are worn or broken. If high oil consumption occurs after replacing pistons and cylinder liners, the cause may be incorrect installation of piston rings.
- Increased clearance between valve guides and valve stems. In this case, only a major overhaul of the cylinder head and replacement of the valves and/or valve guides will help.
- Oil leaks in certain areas of the engine. Oil-contaminated areas on the cylinder block indicate leaks. Carefully inspect contaminated areas.
