8.0 Parking brake drive 1 - parking brake lever; 2 - leash; 3 - bottom; 4 - drive cable equalizer; 5 - rear left wheel drive cable; 6 - rear right wheel drive cable; A - connection of the leash with the parking brake lever in the passenger compartment; B - drive cable holders on the bottom

The rear wheels should not turn when the parking brake lever is tightened to 4 or 5 notches. Repeat applying the parking brake approximately four times. To check the wheel braking, the car is placed on jack stands. If the parking brake action requires adjustment, proceed as follows.

1. Tighten the parking brake lever to the five notches of the sector.

2. Place the rear of the vehicle on jack stands.

3. Loosen nut 1 on the parking brake cable equalizer located under the bottom of the vehicle (see illustration).

8.3. Loosen nut 1 on the parking brake cable equalizer

8.3. Loosen nut 1 on the parking brake cable equalizer

4. Start the engine and, without applying the parking brake, depress the brake pedal 40 times.

5. Tighten the adjusting nut 1 on the cable equalizer until you feel the brakes being applied when turning the wheels.

6. Apply and release the parking brake lever approximately 10 times. When releasing the lever for the last time, leave it on the second tooth of the sector.

7. Tighten nut 1 on the equalizer so that a certain braking force is felt when turning the wheels.

8. Check the operation of the parking brake by tightening the lever. The lever stroke should not be more than six sector teeth.

9. Make sure that both rear brake shoe drive cables move synchronously when the parking brake lever is tightened.

10. Release the parking brake and check that both rear wheels rotate freely without any extraneous noise.

11. Make sure that the brake system indicator light on the instrument panel lights up when the lever is on the first tooth of the sector.
