Removal
1. Start working from the engine compartment. Engage the control handle on the high pressure fuel pump and unhook the cable from the lever (figure 11.1).

2. Pull the cable out of the sealing bushing in the high-pressure fuel pump bracket (Figure 11.2)

3. Release the cable from the remaining clamps and brackets in the engine compartment, noting its routing.

4. Inside the vehicle, remove the fuse box cover and lower trim section from under the driver's side fascia.
5. Reach under the faceplate, squeeze the end of the cable and disconnect the cable from the top of the accelerator pedal. If applicable, remove the bulkhead seal retaining clip.
6. Tie a piece of fishing line to the end of the rope.
7. Return to the engine compartment, release the cable sealing grommet from the bulkhead and remove the cable. When the end of the rope appears, untie the line and leave it in place; it can be used to retract the cable during installation.
Installation
8. Tie a fishing line to the end of the rope, and then use the fishing line to pull the rope through the bulkhead. When the end of the cable appears, untie the fishing line and connect the cable to the pedal. If applicable, install the bulkhead grommet clamp.
9. Working from the engine compartment side, properly secure the cable sheath into the bulkhead grommet, then route the cable correctly and secure it along its entire length using appropriate clamps and ties. Make sure the cable is routed correctly.
10. Pass the cable sheath through the grommet in the support bracket and connect the cable to the lever on the high pressure fuel pump. Adjust the position of the cable as described below.
Adjustment
11. Remove the spring clip from the accelerator cable housing. Move the control lever to the limit position and carefully pull the cable out of the corresponding sealing bushing until all slack in the cable is eliminated.
12. While holding the cable in this position, install the spring clip into the last open groove on the cable sheath before the rubber grommet and washer. Once the clamp is installed and the cable sheath is released, the cable should have only a slight play.
13. Ask an assistant to depress the accelerator pedal and make sure that the control lever moves to the fully open position and smoothly returns to the limit position.
