1. If any of the checks described in paragraph «road test» in chapter 1A or 1B, shows signs of wear in one of the axle joints, perform the following procedures to determine the cause of the problem.
2. Fully apply the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle and securely jack stands under it (see «Lifting and placing the car on supports»).
3. Make a wheel hub holding tool (see paragraph 2) and secure the tool to the hub using bolts. Remove the R-clamp, remove the retaining cap from the axle shaft nut, and use a torque wrench to check that the nut is tight. After tightening the nut, replace the retaining cap and R-clamp. Repeat this check for the nut of the other axle shaft.
4. Road test the vehicle. When the vehicle is moving slowly in a circle with the front wheels turned at maximum angle, listen for metallic clicks coming from the front of the vehicle. Availability «clicking» indicates wear on the outer CV joint. Such a hinge should be replaced; repair is not possible.
5. If the vibration is felt when accelerating the vehicle, depending on the speed of movement, the internal joints may be worn out.
6. To check the hinges for wear, remove the axle shafts, and then disassemble them. If wear or play is found, the hinge in question should be replaced. In most cases this will require replacement of the entire axle shaft unless the pivots are supplied separately. See your Peugeot/Citroen dealer for information on purchasing individual axle components.
