Removal and installation drive shafts (Peugeot 207)

2 - lever for disconnecting the ball joints of the steering knuckle 9509-T;
3 - Ball joint puller 1892-T;
4 - mandrel for installing the left transmission seal 7114-T W;
5 - mandrel for installing the right transmission seal 7114-T X.


Removal (left side)



Place the car on a lift.

Remove the front wheels.

Drain the gearbox oil. Install tool 1. Unlock the hub nut (1). Remove the nut (1) and tool.

Unscrew the nut (2).

Unscrew the nut (2).


Disconnect the steering rod ball joint using tool 3.

Disconnect the steering rod ball joint using tool 3.


Unscrew the nut (3).



Release the steering knuckle joint using tool 2.

Save the ball joint protector for reuse.

Release the drive shaft from the hub.

Remove the drive shaft.

Remove the drive shaft.


Right side



Unscrew the nuts.

Turn the fastener a quarter turn and remove the drive shaft (5).

Turn the fastener a quarter turn and remove the drive shaft (5).


Remove the mounting bolts (5a).

Move the trunnion back and rotate the shock absorber body one revolution to avoid damaging the corrugated protective cap of the drive shaft.

Right drive shaft: Turn the wheels all the way to the right.

Left drive shaft: Turn the wheels to the left until they stop.

Left drive shaft: Turn the wheels to the left until they stop.


Remove the CV joint end from the hub. Remove the drive shaft.



Replace the journal in the shock absorber housing and hold it with the bolt (5a).

Installing the right and left drive shafts

Check:
  • no gaps in the hinge joints (6);
  • condition of corrugated protective caps (7);
  • support bearing (8).

Repair drive shafts if necessary.

Replace the seals after each removal using mounting mandrels 4-5.

Fill the space between the lips of the seal with grease.

Install the left and right drive shafts in the reverse order of removal.

Clean and apply multi-purpose grease to the splines of the drive shaft hub on the wheel side. Right drive shaft: Clean and lubricate the outer sleeve of the support bearing (8) and its seat in the lower right engine mount with multi-purpose grease.

Fill the gearbox with oil and check the level.
