On Bosch injection pumps installed on 1.9 liter XUD9TF engines, you can adjust the engine speed, idle, speed at which the engine stalls (engine stop), as well as high idle speed.
Due to the fact that these adjustments do not require special tools, they can be performed independently. To make adjustments, you will need a tachometer suitable for measurements on diesel engines. The procedure for making adjustments is as follows.
Engine speed correction (accelerator cable)
1. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.
2. Make sure that the idle lever 8 fully reaches the limit screw 9. As a rule, this should be the case. Otherwise, move the brace «A» fastening the accelerator cable sheath to one notch (groove) (see illustration).
6.2 Adjustment of injection pump
1 - cable for adjusting the idle speed of the engine at high speeds
2 - adjusting screw idling at high speeds
3 - coupling for fastening the idle adjustment cable of the engine at high speeds
4 - locknut
5 - adjusting screw
6 - restrictive bolt
7 - an adjusting sleeve and a locknut of a cable of adjustment of idling
8 - idle lever
9 - limit screw
a - fastening bracket of the accelerator cable sheath
c - idle clearance
3. Warm up the engine to operating temperature. The radiator fan should turn on at least twice.
4. Make sure that the upper part of the lever 8 reaches the limit bolt 6 (see illustration 6.2). The high speed idle control cable should not be under tension. This means that at the point «With» the cable should have a play of 5-6 mm.
Idle speed adjustment
5. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature.
6. Check up turns of idling. Loosen the locknut of the limit bolt 6 and unscrew the bolt a few turns so that it does not touch the lever 8 (see illustration 6.2).
7. Adjust the idle speed with the adjusting screw 5, bringing them to the nominal value and tighten the lock nut (see illustration 6.2). In illustration 6.7, the idle speed adjusting screw is marked with the number 4.
6.7 Idle speed adjustment
1 - accelerator cable
2 - restrictive bolt
3 - restrictive bolt
4 - idle speed adjustment screw
5 - fastening bracket of the accelerator cable sheath
Adjusting the speed of reducing the cyclic fuel supply
8. Place a shim or measuring gauge 3 mm thick between lever 6 and stop bolt 7 (see illustration).
6.8 Adjusting the speed of reducing the cyclic fuel supply
1 - cable fastening coupling
2 - lever
3 - cable for adjusting the idle speed of the engine at high speeds
4 - an adjusting sleeve of a cable of adjustment of idling
5 - adjusting screw
6 - accelerator cable attachment lever
7 - restrictive bolt
8 - spacer or measuring template
9. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting screw until the idle speed is 1500 rpm.
10. Tighten locknut and remove shim or gauge.
High idle correction
11. Install lever 2 so that it rests against screw 5. If the idle speed is not within 950±50 rpm, then, after loosening the lock nut, turn screw 5 (see illustration 6.8).
12. Check RPM adjustment. If the engine is cold, then lever 2 must be in contact with screw 5 (see illustration 6.8). If this is not the case, then correct the tension of the engine idle control cable at high speeds using the clutch I of the cable attachment (see illustration 6.8). Accordingly, it will be necessary to shift the installation sleeve 4 of the cable (see illustration 6.8).
13. Warm up the engine to operating temperature and make sure that the cable I on the end side of the injection pump is not tensioned (see illustration 6.2). Sagging (backlash) cable should be 6 mm. If not, check the thermal switch on the coolant outlet.
