Removal
1. Fully apply the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely (see "Lifting and installing the car on supports"). If applicable, remove the screws and engine guard.
2. Drain the engine oil, then clean and install the oil drain plug, tightening it to the specified torque. If the engine is approaching its scheduled service date, when the oil and filter should be changed, it is recommended to remove the filter now and replace it with a new one. After assembly, you can fill the engine with fresh oil. For more information, please contact chapter 1A.
3. Remove the exhaust system downpipe as described in chapter 4A.
4. Gradually loosen and remove all oil pan mounting nuts, and also remove the bolts/nuts and position the wiring harness guide away from the oil pan (figure 12.4, a, b).

5. Open the joint by tapping the pallet with the palm of your hand. Then lower the tray and remove it from under the vehicle. On 1.4L engines, it may be necessary to use a putty knife or similar tool to carefully insert it between the oil pan and the block to separate the joint. Run a spatula around the perimeter of the joint, freeing the oil pan. On 1.6L engines, remove the gasket.
6. Once the oil pan has been removed, take the opportunity to inspect the oil pickup/oil pump strainer for any signs of blockage or damage. If necessary, remove the pump as described in paragraph 13, and clean or replace the mesh filter.
Installation
7. Remove all traces of sealant from the mating surfaces of the cylinder block/crankcase and oil pan, then wipe the oil pan and the inside of the engine with a clean rag.
8. Clean and dry the mating surfaces of the oil pan and cylinder block/crankcase. On 1.4L engines, apply a suitable sealant to the oil pan mating surface. On 1.6L engines, if the gasket is not damaged, install it on the oil pan. If damaged, install a new gasket.
9. Lift the oil pan and position it on the studs. Install the wiring harness guide into place, then tighten the nuts and bolts securing the oil pan. Tighten nuts and bolts evenly and gradually to the specified torque.
10. Install the exhaust downpipe as described in chapter 4A, and install the lower engine protection (if applicable).
11. Fill with engine oil (see Chapter 1A).
