Removing
1. Fully apply the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle and securely jack stands under it (see «Lifting and placing the car on supports»). If applicable, remove the screws and remove the motor guard.
2. Drain the engine oil, then clean and install the oil drain plug to the specified torque. If the prescribed engine service interval is approaching, when the oil and filter must be changed, it is recommended to remove the filter now as well and replace it with a new one. After assembly, you can fill the engine with fresh oil. For more information, please refer to chapter 1A.
3. Remove the exhaust pipe as described in chapter 4A.
4. Gradually loosen and remove all nuts securing the oil pan, and remove the bolts/nuts and position the wiring harness guide away from the oil pan (pic. 12.4, a, b).
Pic. 12.4, a. Loosen the nuts, remove the bolts and remove the oil pan from the engine (engines 1.4 l)
Pic. 12.4, b. Access to the bolts / nuts of the oil pan is possible through the holes in the cover (marked with arrows) (engines 1.6 l)
5. Open the joint, for which you should knock on the pallet with the palm of your hand. Then lower the pallet and remove it from under the car. On 1.4 liter engines, it may be necessary to use a spatula or similar tool to separate the joint, which should be carefully inserted between the oil pan and block. Run a spatula around the perimeter of the joint, releasing the oil pan. On 1.6L engines, remove the gasket.
6. After removing the oil pan, take the opportunity to inspect the oil pump/strainer for signs of blockage or damage. If necessary, remove the pump as described in paragraph 13, and clean or replace the strainer.
Installation
7. Remove all traces of sealant from the mating surfaces of the cylinder block/crankcase and oil pan, and then wipe the oil pan and the inside of the engine with a clean rag.
8. Clean and dry mating surfaces of oil pan and cylinder block/crankcase. On 1.4L engines, apply a suitable sealant to the mating surface of the oil pan. On 1.6L engines, if the gasket is intact, install it on the oil pan. If damaged, install a new gasket.
9. Lift up the oil pallet and expose it on hairpins. Install the wiring harness guide to its original location, and then screw the nuts and screw the oil pan mounting bolts. Tighten the nuts and bolts evenly and progressively to the specified torque.
10. Install the downpipe of the exhaust system as described in chapter 4A, and install the lower engine protection (if applicable).
11. Fill with engine oil (see chapter 1A).
