Removal



Remove the steering gear (see the corresponding operation) and secure it in a vice equipped with pads.

Remove:
  • plug (1) using tool 1;
  • washer (2);
  • rubber spacer (3);
  • pusher (4) with ring gasket (5).

Apply a thin layer of grease to the threads of device 2 (Total grease No.3924).

Run the threads in the steering gear housing using tool 2 until the hard spots disappear.

Run the threads in the steering gear housing using tool 2 until the hard spots disappear.
Run the threads in the steering gear housing using tool 2 until the hard spots disappear.


Caution: Open the circuit carefully to prevent contamination particles from entering it.




Clean the components and the pushrod seat in the steering gear housing.

Installation



Caution: Replace parts (1), (2), (3), (4) and (5) with new ones.


Set the rack to the middle position (see the corresponding operation).

Apply a thin layer of grease to the plunger (4) (Total grease No.3924).

Install (new parts):
  • pusher (4) with ring seal (5);
  • rubber spacer (3);
  • washer (2);
  • plug (1) using tool 1.

Tighten the plug (1) to a torque of 10 Nm using tool 1.

Place mark "a" on the steering gear housing opposite mark "c" on the plug (1).

Place mark "b" on the steering gear housing 60° from mark "a".

Unscrew the plug (1) using tool 1 until marks "c" and "b" align.

Unscrew the plug (1) using tool 1 until marks «c» and «b» align.


Secure the plug (1) to the steering gear housing using a punch.

Make sure there are no hard spots along the entire travel of the steering rack.

Install the steering gear (see the corresponding operation).
