- remove the steering gear;

- apply marks A and B (figure 7.17) on the steering gear housing;
- place mark C on the stop nut so that it aligns with mark A;
- using an 18 mm hex head, turn the stop nut until mark C aligns with mark B;
- use a center punch to tap the stop nut on the steering gear housing;
- make three movements of the toothed rack from stop to stop;
- make sure there is no jamming throughout the entire range of movement of the toothed rack;
- set the steering rack to an intermediate position;
- install the steering gear.
