Replacing the rack stop (Peugeot 307)

To remove the rack stop:
  • remove the steering gear;
  • secure the steering gear in a vice;

Caution: To prevent dirt from entering the power steering hydraulic circuit, plug both openings of the control valve and both pipes with plastic plugs.

  • using an 18 mm hex head, unscrew the stop nut 1 (figure 7.16) and remove washer 2, rubber spacer 3 and pusher with sealing ring.

To install the rack stop:
  • cover the hole in the steering gear housing with a lint-free cloth;
  • use a tap to clean the threads in the steering gear housing and thoroughly clean the socket for the toothed rack stop. Take all measures to prevent even the smallest contaminant particles from entering the system;
  • replace all parts associated with the pushrod periodically;
  • lubricate all parts of the toothed rack stop with G13 grease;
  • install the pusher with the sealing ring, rubber spacer, washer and screw in the stop nut;
  • tighten the stop nut to a torque of 10 Nm;
  • adjust the gap between the rack stop and the nut;
  • install the steering gear.
