1 - device for blocking the steering rack from turning 0721.B;
2 - tubular wrench 0721.A;
3 - steering rod ball joint puller 1892-T;
4 - clamp pliers "Clic" 0172.Z.


Removal



Secure and raise the vehicle on a two-post lifting platform.

Remove:
  • front wheels;
  • steering rod ball joint nut.

Disconnect the steering rod ball joint using tool 3 and remove.

Disconnect the tube (1) from the steering rack bellows (2).

Mark the position of the steering rack boot on the steering gear.

Mark the position of the steering rack boot on the steering gear.


Mark the position of the steering rack boot on the steering gear.


Disconnect the clamp (3) using universal pliers.



Disconnect the clamp (3) using universal pliers.


Remove the clamp (4) using a thin screwdriver.

Remove the clamp (4) using a thin screwdriver.


Remove the ribbed protective cover of the steering rack (2).

Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and back out ¼ turn.

Install device 1 on the steering rack so that its ball joints rest against the subframe.

Tighten four screws in area "a". Support two supports "b" against the subframe.

Remove the steering rod using tool 2.

Remove the steering rod using tool 2.


Installation



Install the steering rod using tool 2.

Remove tool 1.

Lubricate with Total grease No.3924/ N3945:
  • the bearing surface of the ribbed protective cover of the steering rack in zone "c";
  • steering rack teeth.

Note: Do not lubricate in area "d".


Install a new ribbed steering rack boot (2).



Check the position of the steering rack protective boot in the "e" and "f" zones.

Install a new clamp (4) using tool 4.

Connect the tube (1) to the steering rack bellows (2).

Install the clamp (3) and the steering rod ball joint.

Install the wheels.

Vehicles with Electronic Stability Program (ESP)



Calibrate the steering wheel angle sensor using the Lexia or Proxia diagnostic tool.

To perform this operation, use the "Anti-lock braking system (ABS/ESP)" menu.
