Removal
30. Perform the actions described in paragraph. points 1 and 2, if you haven't done so yet.
31. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery (refer to paragraph "Disconnecting the battery").
32. If necessary, remove the screws from the power steering pump pulley shield and remove the shield to gain access to the top of the drive belt.
33. Working from under the wheel arch, loosen the bolt located in the center of the eccentric tensioner pulley.
34. Insert a bent square rod with a side of 7.0 mm (for example, a socket extension that has a square cross-section with sides measuring a quarter inch) into the square hole on the front side of the eccentric tensioner pulley.
35. Using a rod, turn the eccentric tensioner pulley until the hole in the automatic tensioner pulley arm is aligned with the hole in the rear support bracket. Once the holes are aligned, insert the appropriate adjustment tool (a bolt or bent rod with a diameter of approximately 8.0 mm) through the hole in the lever and in the support bracket.
36. With the automatic tensioner locked, turn the eccentric tensioner pulley enough to create enough slack in the belt to remove the belt, and then remove the belt from the pulleys (figure 12.21).
Note: If the belt is to be reused, mark the direction of rotation on it before removing it. This will ensure that the belt is installed correctly.
Installation and tensioning
37. When replacing a belt, ensure that the new belt is the correct type, and if installing a removed belt, follow the marks made during removal to ensure it is installed correctly. Place the belt on the pulleys so that the belt ribs fit correctly into the grooves on the pulleys and the belt is routed properly.
38. Turn the eccentric tensioner pulley to tighten the drive belt enough to relieve the load on the adjusting tool. Without changing the position of the eccentric tensioner pulley, securely tighten the corresponding bolt.
39. Remove the adjusting tool from the automatic tensioner lever, and then rotate the crankshaft four full turns in the normal direction of rotation.
40. Make sure that the holes in the automatic adjuster lever and the support bracket are still aligned by reinserting the adjusting tool. If the bolt does not go in easily, repeat the tightening procedure starting from step 38.
41. Finally, connect the ground wire to the battery and all other disturbed components.
