Note: The following procedure applies to models where the fuel pressure regulator is mounted on the fuel rail. On later models, the regulator is mounted on the top of the fuel tank or combined with the fuel pump. The tank-mounted regulator can be accessed after removing the fuel tank (see paragraph 10). Regulators combined with a fuel pump are not supplied separately.
Note: Before you begin, please read the warning provided in paragraph 1.
17. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery (see "Disconnecting the battery").
18. Disconnect the vacuum line from the regulator. Keep in mind that on early engines, while the fuel rail is in place, access to the regulator is difficult. Therefore, if necessary, remove the fuel rail as described above, and then remove the regulator.
19. Taking into account the information given in paragraph 7, cover the regulator with a thick layer of rag to prevent any possible escape of fuel under pressure, then remove the clamp and remove the regulator from the fuel rail.

20. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Inspect the regulator seal for signs of damage or deterioration and replace if necessary.
