Engine management systems (ECU) are self-adjusting systems that ensure optimal engine operating conditions.

The electronic control unit (ECU) monitors the current operating state of the engine and determines the parameter settings that best match this state. These settings are stored in the ECU memory. When the battery is disconnected, the settings disappear and are replaced by the "default" settings. After the on-board power supply is restored, the engine may operate intermittently for some time until the ECU restores the optimal parameters. To speed up this process, perform the following operations:
  • turn on the ignition, then turn it off for 10 seconds. Turn on the ignition again, holding the key in this position for 10 seconds before turning on the starter, without pressing the accelerator pedal;
  • if the engine is equipped with a BOSCH control system, start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. After the cooling fan turns on, stop the engine. Then start the engine again and make a short trip at different speeds and loads. When driving, create an engine braking mode starting from 4000 min⁻¹ for 5 s;
  • if the engine is equipped with the MAGNETI MARELLI control system, start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. After the cooling system fan turns on, do not stop the engine, but make a short drive with different speeds and loads. During the drive, choose a safe moment when you can press the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and accelerate for 2 seconds.

Depending on the engine displacement and vehicle configuration, the following engine management systems can be installed on Peugeot vehicles:

  • BOSCH MA3.1,
  • SOLEX 32PBISA 16(411),
  • SOLEX 32-34 CISAC (528/5),
  • MAGNETI MARELLI 1AP,
  • BOSCH MP5.2,
  • BOSCH MP7.3,
  • MAGNETI MARELLI 8P.
