Electronic control unit (ECU) monitors the current state of engine operation and determines the parameter settings that best suit this state. These settings are stored in the computer memory. When the battery is disconnected, the settings disappear and are replaced by the settings «default». After restoring on-board power, the engine may run intermittently for a while until the ECU restores optimal parameters. To speed up this process, do the following:
- turn on the ignition, then turn it off for 10 seconds. Turn on the ignition again, holding the key in this position for 10 seconds, before turning on the starter, while not pressing the accelerator pedal;
- if the engine is equipped with a BOSCH control system, start the engine, warm it up to operating temperature. After the cooling fan turns on, stop the engine. Then start the engine again and drive for a short time at different speeds and loads. When driving, create an engine braking mode starting from 4000 min-1 within 5 s;
- if the engine is equipped with the MAGNETI MARELLI control system, start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. After the cooling fan turns on, do not stop the engine, but make a short trip with different speeds and loads. When driving, choose a safe moment when you can press the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and accelerate for 2 seconds.
On Peugeot cars, depending on the engine capacity and vehicle equipment, the following engine management systems can be installed:
- BOSCH MA3.1,
- SOLEX 32PBISA 16 (411),
- SOLEX 32-34 CISAC (528/5),
- MAGNETI MARELLI 1AP,
- BOSCH MP5.2,
- BOSCH MP7.3,
- MAGNETI MARELLI 8P.
