1. Peugeot 305 is equipped with a diagnostic socket for monitoring the operation of the engine and ignition system using electronic devices. You can use this socket yourself, but a workshop can use it to check your car.

2. The diagnostic socket is located in the upper left corner of the valve cover. Figure 4.12 shows the wires connected to the diagnostic socket. If you have the appropriate instruments, you can use the diagnostic socket to check and adjust the following on a running engine:
  • a. primary circuit state (low voltage circuit)
  • b. state of breaker contacts
  • in. the value of the angle of the closed state of contacts
  • g. initial value of ignition advance angle
  • d. operation of centrifugal and vacuum ignition regulators
  • e. engine speed

3. If you are going to do any work with the TDC sensor, you should first familiarize yourself with the procedure for adjusting the air gap of the sensor (see next section).
